SSL operates its own wireless networks: SSL-AIR2, SSL-AIR-GUEST. UC Berkeley’s Eduroam and CalVisitor wireless networks are not available.
- SSL-AIR2 (and SSL-AIR-TEST): This is a WPA2-encrypted network for SSL faculty, staff and students. For access, use your SSL-LDAP username and password.
- To access SSL-AIR2, your SSL-LDAP account needs to be updated. To do this automatically, simply change your SSL-LDAP password.
- Connecting from a Mac computer is fairly straightforward. Simply select “SSL-AIR2” from the list of wireless networks, login with your SSL-LDAP username and password, and accept the security certificate. If your computer still has problems connecting, try resetting the wifi connection on your MacOSX.
- Connecting from a Windows 10/11 computer should be relatively straightforward. Simply select “SSL-AIR2” from the list of wireless networks, login with your SSL-LDAP username and password, and (possibly) accept the security certificate. If you encounter difficulties, try using the SSL-AIR2 Windows instructions.

- Connecting from an Android phone – tips.
- SSL-AIR-GUEST (and SSL-AIR-GUEST2): This is an unencrypted Wi-Fi service for Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) guests ONLY.
- To access SSL-AIR-GUEST, open a web browser and go to any URL. You’ll be automatically redirected to the SSL-AIR-GUEST sign-in page.
- No password or special configuration is required to access the SSL-AIR-GUEST network.
- SSL-AIR-GUEST only provides access to the following:
- websites via http and https (ports 80 and 443);
- email via imaps and pop3s (ports 993 and 995);
- outgoing authenticated mail/smtp (ports 465 and 587);
- outside SSH servers; and
- outside VPN servers.
- For full network connectivity, Space Sciences Laboratory faculty, staff and students should use SSL-AIR2 (see above).
- Any malicious activities on the network will result in the offending device being permanently banned from the network. Compromised devices (infected with viruses or other malware) will also be permanently banned. Bans are automatically implemented and can not be revoked.
